Ep183 SOLO 5th anniversary TalentGrow Show with Halelly Azulay

The TalentGrow Show is 5 today! Happy Anniversary to us! To celebrate this momentous achievement, I thought it would be fun to walk down memory lane and pull out some gems that are potentially hiding in the first 55 episodes that I published.

The TalentGrow Show is 5 today! Happy Anniversary to us! To celebrate this momentous achievement, I thought it would be fun to walk down memory lane and pull out some gems that are potentially hiding in the first 55 episodes that I published. While I love all my episodes and guests, and am very proud of them all, I thought these were particularly good treasures to dust off and offer up for your (re)listening pleasure. So in this solo episode of The TalentGrow Show, I recap 5 episodes from the first 55 of the TalentGrow Show, plus a bonus one – the most downloaded. They cover the topics of overwhelm, engaging communication, coaching, fierce leadership, decision making, and negotiations. Enjoy!

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:

I thought it would be fun to walk down memory lane and pull out some gems that are potentially hiding in the first 55 episodes that I published. While I love all my episodes and guests, and am very proud of them all, I thought these were particularly good treasures to dust off and offer up for your (re)listening pleasure. Here they are, in chronological order – 5 episodes from the first 55 of the TalentGrow Show.

31: The Coaching Habit – How to Say Less, Ask More, and Lead Better through 10 Minute Coaching Conversations with Michael Bungay Stanier on the TalentGrow Show

This is a conversation with a funny man, and it’s fast-moving so hold on to your hat! Michael Bungay Stanier, an award-winning and sought-after coach, author, and speaker, talks about his latest book, The Coaching Habit. Michael wants us leaders to learn to stay a little more curious a little longer and rush to ideas and advice a little more slowly, which will ultimately let us be more effective and work less hard. He teaches us three of the seven coaching questions from his book that will help you have better coach-like conversations that take 10 minutes or less. We discuss the neuroscience of engagement, ways to help people get more ‘Ahas’ to cement their insights and learning, and the kind of question we should all try to avoid. Finally, as in every episode of The TalentGrow Show, Michael shares a highly actionable piece of advice to help you upgrade your leadership skills right away – this one in answer to a listener’s question.

36: Fierce Leadership, Radical Transparency, and Deeper Human Connectivity with Susan Scott on the TalentGrow Show

Susan Scott, best-selling author and leadership development architect, explains what fierce conversations are, why it’s important that we have them (a lot!), and a common obstacle we all face and how to overcome it when having these types of conversations – both at work in your personal lives. In our conversation, Susan also talks about how to be open and more transparent and invite this kind of openness from others (and what some of us might be doing to hinder that). She explores why she thinks careful conversations are almost always failed conversations. We also discuss the concept of radical transparency, which Susan advocates, and the difference between fierce leaders and other leaders. And of course, Susan shares one actionable suggestion that will help you upgrade your leadership and will make a HUGE difference in the quality of your conversations and your relationships. You should really begin doing it, today!

“We are all navigating our lives one conversation at a time. Our careers, our companies, our relationships, our lives are succeeding – or failing – gradually, gradually, gradually, then suddenly, one conversation at a time.” ~ Susan Scott

47: Business Negotiation Tips from an FBI Hostage Negotiator with Chris Voss on the TalentGrow Show

What can you learn from a hostage negotiator about your own day-to-day negotiations? A lot. My guest, Chris Voss, co-author of the national business best-seller Never Split the Difference, is a negotiation consultant and award-winning business school professor. After 24 years as an FBI hostage negotiator, Chris founded The Black Swan Group, a firm that solves business communication problems with hostage negotiation strategies. And he’s a funny guy who gets me giggling throughout this episode as we discuss some pretty counterintuitive negotiation tips Chris suggests based on his vast hostage negotiation experience, all of which you can immediately apply to your daily negotiations in business and in life to see a positive impact on your negotiation results. Learn about why Chris says the word “Yes” is useless, the word “No” is freeing, and the phrase “You’re right!” is the kiss of death. Get actionable advice and then apply it and become a master negotiator!

What’s Next

When I first launched the podcast in 2015, we had two episodes each month. Then, in 2018, we doubled up: every week, a new episode. It’s been lots of hard, rewarding work. And now, I’ve decided to shift gears again a bit, and slow down the cadence back to every-other-week. This will keep lots of great content coming to you, TalentGrowers, and will free up a bit of my time to focus on my work and some new exciting projects. And, of course, I’ll continue to keep you informed in my newsletters – which I may also revert to every two weeks, although I may keep them weekly… I haven’t decided yet (what do you think? I always welcome your feedback).

Are you subscribed to get them? If not, let’s fix that, shall we? My weekly newsletter is free and always short, upbeat, and useful. Sign up at www.tinyurl.com/talentgrow.
